Contralto Lauren Decker is currently in her first year at the Patrick G. & Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. For the second consecutive year she received an Encouragement Award at the Upper Midwest Region Finals of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
Ms. Decker has covered the role of Mary in The Flying Dutchman at Florentine Opera Company in Milwaukee, where she has also been heard in opera scenes with Kalliope Vocal Arts as Gaea in Strauss's Daphne, Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera, and La Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica. Upcoming performances include Third Lady in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Alisa in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor.
A Wisconsin native, Decker holds a B.F.A. degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Ms. Decker has spent the last two summers at the Institute for Young Dramatic Voices working under the tutelage of dramatic mezzo-soprano, Dolora Zajick and has also participated in the American Wagner Project.
